Oscar "Ozzie" L Snyder

Oscar L. Snyder of Reading, PA passed away on November 27th, 2018.  

Oscar “Ozzie” Snyder was born on July 22, 1937 in Irish Valley, PA.  Ozzie was the son of Albert Snyder and Mabel Badman (Snyder) formerly of Sunbury, PA.  Ozzie graduated from Sunbury High School in 1955 where he played football and basketball.  He entered Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1955 and graduated in 1959.  Oz lettered four years as a quarterback on their football team.  He married Sally Ann Messner, daughter of Ruth and Burns Messner in 1958.  Sally was also a graduate of Sunbury High School.

Ozzie taught mathematics and coached football at Susquehannock High School from 1959-1963.  He taught one year at Spring Ford High School before coming to Kutztown State College in 1965. 

Ozzie taught mathematics at Kutztown University from 1965-1993 and coached football from 1965-1971. 

Ozzie is survived by his wife Sally, daughter Terri Martin, daughter Tracy Schaeffer, wife of Andrew Schaeffer, and son Ted Snyder, husband of Susan Snyder.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Keegan Moyer and fiancé Hilary Kline, Karli Hill wife of  Derrick Hill, Jared Martin and fiancé Amanda Walters, Kelli Martin, Madison Schaeffer, Alison Snyder, Samantha Snyder and Teddy Snyder.

He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Ackley Hill, Shawnee Hill and Brooks Oscar Moyer and sister-in-law  Kathy Messner Krawczyk,  wife of Jeffrey Krawczyk , and nephew Jason Krawczyk.

Oz and Sally loved to travel to watch their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and other events. He enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, golf and Lyon’s softball.  He also enjoyed listening to music and solving crossword puzzles.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 201 E Main St., Kutztown PA on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Calling hours are 12-1:30, service at 1:30.
