Elaine K. (Kehl) George

Elaine K. (Kehl) George, 88 of Robesonia (formerly of Fleetwood), passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 in the Reading Hospital. She was the beloved wife for 48 years of Gene D. George who predeceased her in 2003. Born in Germantown, Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Charles H Kehl and Cora (Rapp) Kehl. Elaine was a 1950 graduate of Germantown High School and a 1954 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College (Kutztown University). She spent several summers at Camp Allegro for girls as a counselor, teaching campers Aquatics and Archery. At Kutztown, Elaine made friends for life with her dorm mates, Shirley, Mae, & Harriet; as well as meeting her future husband. After college, she was employed by N.C. Schaeffer Elementary School (Muhlenberg School District) as a 4th/6th grade teacher until leaving the workforce to start a family. Elaine volunteered at ST. Paul’s UCC in Fleetwood through the 1960s until the early 1980s where she administrated the Primary Department, Vacation Bible School Program and assisted in the periodic Shoo Fly pie bake sales. After Elaine and Gene retired they enjoyed traveling to the White Mountains of New England and splitting time between their homes on Silver Lake, NH and Fleetwood, PA. Her only travel regret was that she never traveled west of the Mississippi. Elaine spent the last years of her life enjoying the mountains, next to her son in Robesonia, PA. She enjoyed engaging in the Phoebe Berks Adult Daycare as well as observing the deer and birds in her backyard. She attempted to keep her mind sharp through puzzles and thoroughly enjoyed game shows. In addition to her husband, Elaine is predeceased by her cousins, Ardith Yoder of Boyertown, PA, Randolph Best of Baltimore, MD, and Jane Ann Rapp. Elaine is survived by her son, Eric L. George, his wife Sandra (Farabaugh) George of Robesonia; two grandsons, James P. George, his wife Alejandra (Rivera- Agosto) of Goose Creek, SC, and Seth C. George of Robesonia. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date, at New Goshenhoppen UCC Church in Greenville, PA. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St Paul’s UCC of Fleetwood or New Goshenhoppen UCC of East Greenville.
