Michael T. Butts, 90, of Mertztown, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He was the husband of Marilyn C. (Jodun) Butts. Born January 10, 1935, in Mabscott, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James E and Ethel (Flanagan) Burgess. He was proud to serve in the Army during the Korean war and was honored to be a veteran. Michael T. Butts was the hardest working man and always provided for his family. He was a roofer for most of his life but was never limited to being just one thing. He loved music, singing, dancing, acting, reading, fishing, if anyone could do it he could. One of his favorite things to say and sing was a quote from a song he wrote that went “Waiting on the train.” We now know that it was the train to heaven. If anyone could laugh about anything it was him, he never stopped having a smile on his face and even during the hardest times in life, he found a way to laugh it off. He was the most welcoming soul and always had a way of making you feel special even if you were a stranger, with Michael you left as a friend. To know him was to love him and he will be greatly missed. A family man with a heart of gold and an armor of steel. A husband, a father, a grandfather, and a friend. In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his son, Michael C. Butts, Daughter in-law, Zinata Butts, and Grandchildren Amerycal, Fabian (spouse Felicity), Raven (spouse Chaz), and Samurai. Great-Grandchildren Demetrius, Javian, Gianni, Addison, and Rémi. His daughters, Debbie (spouse Joe) Gron and Peaches (spouse Tom) Burgess Welton, Shelly (spouse Rod) Jodun-Crandall and Gwendolyn Styers. Nephew and Niece, Carl Shifflett (spouse Sandy) and Tonya Ricketts Grandchildren, Stephen Jodun (spouse Nory) and Danielle Styers. Great-Grandchildren, Asia-Monet, Stephen, Isaiah, Reign, Ahkira, and Avanni. As well as their mothers, Monet, Dadianna, Jenny (Heaven) and Nory. We love you so much and it was a pleasure to share life with you. Now you’re walking the streets of gold with God, Yahweh and Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Father of all Fathers. Touché Dad. Touché Pap. See you later.
